On October 7, three new Regents will be sworn in at the Ohio Board of Regents' monthly meeting at Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus. The Ohio Board of Regents is an 11-member public board created in 1963 by the General Assembly to provide higher education policy advice to the Governor and General Assembly.
The OBOR also helps develop strategy involving Ohio's public and independent colleges and universities, advocates for and manages state funds, and coordinates and implements state higher education policies. OSC is a technology initiative of the Ohio Board of Regents.

Just in time for the new academic year at The Ohio State University (OSU), Community Connection is now available.
Community Connection is an Internet-based service that will connect and match OSU faculty and students with neighborhood schools and community service organizations. This web tool makes the most of today's technology to answer the national call to increase community service. Free-Net, an outreach project of OSU and OSC (Ohio Supercomputer Center), developed the database and web interfaces that run this new service.
A revolutionary design project developed by the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD) and OSC was recently featured in the widely-read magazine, Metropolis.
In its August/September issue, the magazine spotlighted the Virtual Sketch Project, which allows design students to "create" an interior space around them, immersing them in a virtual environment and resulting in a digital model of space. The tool is featured in the magazine's nod to "21 Great Design Ideas for the 21st Century," published in celebration of the periodical's 21st anniversary.
OSC, along with several other organizations, is co-sponsoring a four-day conference in Russia on microelectronics. A symposium will be held on September 10-13 in Moscow on "Nano and Giga Challenges in Microelectronics Research and Opportunities in Russia."

HP (NYSE:HPQ) today announced that the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) will deploy an HP supercomputer based on a cluster of more than 150 Intel® Itanium® 2-based HP Workstation zx6000 systems.
OSC selected HP's computing cluster because of its blend of high performance, flexibility and low cost. The HP cluster will use Myricom's Myrinet high-speed interconnect and run the Red Hat Linux Advanced Workstation, a 64-bit Linux operating system.
