The first-ever Global Open OnDemand (GOOD) conference will be held March 18-20, 2025, at Harvard University to allow the community that uses the Ohio Supercomputer Center’s (OSC) popular web portal to share expertise and learn about advancements in the technology.
The GOOD conference will feature keynote talks, tutorials, birds of feather and poster sessions as well as networking opportunities for the community of developers, researchers and high performance computing (HPC) professionals to discuss how Open OnDemand is being used around the world to improve access to advanced computing and artificial intelligence resources for research and education. A hackathon also will be hosted before and during the conference, with results reported at the closing ceremony.
Launched in 2017, OSC’s Open OnDemand is now deployed at thousands of sites in dozens of countries across the globe, including at public and private academic institutions, government agencies, non-profit organizations and commercial enterprises. The portal features a simple web browser interface that gives users access to HPC center resources from any device at any time. OSC estimates that Open OnDemand actively supports at least half a million researchers and students who use HPC for discovery and innovation in a variety of disciplines, from computational chemistry to digital arts.
“The global Open OnDemand community has grown to be large, diverse and enthusiastic,” said Alan Chalker, OSC director of strategic programs. “Community members actively develop ways to improve the web portal to increase its efficiency and effectiveness and customize it for their institutions.”
OSC and its partners on the Open OnDemand project developed the GOOD conference to advance the conversation and catalyze collaboration on the web portal, which has been supported by several National Science Foundation grants. Conference sessions will dive into topics such as customization, apps, educational usage, client impacts, security and data privacy, cloud integration and core development.
Community members may submit proposals for the conference through Dec. 8, 2024, and will be notified of their acceptance by Jan. 14, 2025. An array of presentation modalities, including posters, prerecorded talks and more are welcome.
Registration for professionals and students is now open. The GOOD conference is a welcoming and accessible event for all. For information about eligibility for financial assistance to attend the event, please contact the conference organizers at info@openondemand.org.
