Problems with the nightly backup on ess filesystem
We are having problems with the nightly backup on ess filesystem, causing missing backups of the /fs/ess file system since Monday, August 9th. Backups of home directory and /fs/project are normal.
We are working with vendor on this problem and will provide more information once we know more.

Backup failures on ess filesystem
The backups on the /fs/ess filesystem are having issues running. There has not been a successful backup of this filesystem since Sunday, 08 August 2021.
OSC is working with the vendor to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
Backups of /nfs/gpfs
Changes to files on /nfs/gpfs may not be backed up during the following evening's backup, as would normally be expected. The backup software is attempting to recreate a full backup of the filesystem on tape, rather than nightly snapshots of changes, and the volume of data is so large that the operation is being split across several evenings worth of backups.
The problem is isolated to that filesystem, and does not impact home directories or other project space filesystems.
Systems staff are working on resolving the underlying problem with the backup routine.
