Press Releases

Just in time for the new academic year at The Ohio State University (OSU), Community Connection is now available.

Community Connection is an Internet-based service that will connect and match OSU faculty and students with neighborhood schools and community service organizations. This web tool makes the most of today's technology to answer the national call to increase community service. Free-Net, an outreach project of OSU and OSC (Ohio Supercomputer Center), developed the database and web interfaces that run this new service.

A revolutionary design project developed by the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD) and OSC was recently featured in the widely-read magazine, Metropolis.

In its August/September issue, the magazine spotlighted the Virtual Sketch Project, which allows design students to "create" an interior space around them, immersing them in a virtual environment and resulting in a digital model of space. The tool is featured in the magazine's nod to "21 Great Design Ideas for the 21st Century," published in celebration of the periodical's 21st anniversary.

OSC, along with several other organizations, is co-sponsoring a four-day conference in Russia on microelectronics. A symposium will be held on September 10-13 in Moscow on "Nano and Giga Challenges in Microelectronics Research and Opportunities in Russia."

World-class innovation has been demonstrated by the 36 finalists in ECom-Ohio's first-ever E-Commerce Pioneer Awards. Finalists have just been selected, and one winner in each category will be chosen by a blue-ribbon national selection committee.

SIGGRAPH, San Antonio, CA - NVIDIA® Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), the worldwide leader in visual processing solutions announced that OSC (Ohio Supercomputer Center) has purchased and deployed more than 50 NVIDIA Quadro4 900 XGL workstation graphics boards to power a new cluster for volume rendering of graphics applications.

HP (NYSE:HPQ) today announced that the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) will deploy an HP supercomputer based on a cluster of more than 150 Intel® Itanium® 2-based HP Workstation zx6000 systems.

OSC selected HP's computing cluster because of its blend of high performance, flexibility and low cost. The HP cluster will use Myricom's Myrinet high-speed interconnect and run the Red Hat Linux Advanced Workstation, a 64-bit Linux operating system.

Scientific Computing Associates (SCIENTIFIC), experts in parallel and distributed computing with more than 21 years of experience, today announced that SCIENTIFIC's Linda® and Paradise®, a unique programming tool suite, is now available for use at Platform Lab. Platform Lab is a joint project of OSC (Ohio Supercomputer Center) and the Business Technology Center.

The National Computational Science Institute (NCSI) will offer an introductory workshop entitled, "Introduction to Computational Science Modeling and Simulation in the Undergraduate Environment." The workshop will be held on June 16-22 at OSC (Ohio Supercomputer Center), located on The Ohio State University campus.

OSC (Ohio Supercomputer Center) announces a new statewide software licensing partnership with Altair Engineering, a leading developer of engineering software.

OSC (Ohio Supercomputer Center) has announced that 18 of Ohio's middle-school girls have been selected to participate in its Young Women's Summer Institute (YWSI).

YWSI is a week-long program sponsored by OSC for middle-school girls in Ohio. It is designed to promote computer, math, and science skills as well as provide hands-on experiences. YWSI helps girls develop an interest in these subjects by allowing them to work on a practical, interesting scientific problem using the latest computer technology.
