Stutz Receives Chairs Award from OSU CIS Department

COLUMBUS, Ohio (May 20, 2003) —

At an annual awards banquet on May 20, 2003, Al Stutz was presented the Chairs Award for his service and effort in assisting the Computer and Information Science (CIS) Department at The Ohio State University (OSU). In addition to serving as a Senior CIS Lecturer, Stutz is the Ohio Supercomputer Center Chief Operating Officer and Interim OSC Networking Director.

The Chairs Award recognizes the contributions of someone who is not a current CIS faculty, staff or student. Stutz is only the second recipient in the CIS department’s seven-year award program history. It is not an honor given annually.

“Al’s long-standing efforts in assisting the department are the reason he was selected for this award,” said Dr. Stu Zweben, OSU CIS Department Chair.

Over the decades, Stutz has mentored students, aided the department in hosting visitors, provided valuable advice and assistance with CIS proposals, and volunteered for advising and committee duties to help improve the undergraduate program. Stutz also received a department teaching award earlier this year.

“In summary, Al has consistently and proactively made efforts to benefit the department over a long period of time,” said Zweben.
