As a part of The Ohio State University Summer Institute, fifteen students will have the chance to work with Ohio's supercomputer - a computer normally reserved for professional scientists and engineers! Summer Institute attracts gifted and talented students to Columbus each summer for two weeks of exciting and challenging learning.
Students with an interest in high technology, computers, science, or mathematics can obtain an application from their State legislator or from the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC), c/o Elaine Hamilton, 1224 Kinnear Road, Columbus, OH 43212. The only cost is $25 for those who are accepted. The application deadline is April 18, 1994.
Last year was a tremendous success for the OSC student program. The students not only had "hands-on" experience with OSC's CRAY Y-MP supercomputer, but they learned teamwork at Camp Mary Orton's High-Ropes course; lit up the giant scoreboard at the Ohio Stadium; visited METATEC, a CD-Rom manufacturer; and took home a highlights video of all their experiences. This summer's program, July 11-22, is expected to be even more challenging and fun for the special students who come.
The OSC is a state-funded, shared resource of high performance computing for Ohio's researchers, both academic and industrial.
