At the 47th Annual State Science Day on April 22, 1995, the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC), Columbus, recognized Upper Arlington ninth grader Ho-Sheng Hsiao for Outstanding Application of Computational Methods for his State Science Day Research Project. Hsiao's project, Path finding: Behavior of Artificial Neural Network, garnered the top OSC award. His project involved a two-layer network of a robot finding a path to a predetermined destination while avoiding obstacles along the way.
An OSC Certificate of Achievement went to Tuscarawas Valley High School sophomore Kai Redinger. His project was about Computerizing the Holographic Process.
State Science Day, sponsored by The Ohio Academy of Science, was hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. The mission of the Academy is to empower curiosity, discovery and innovation by stimulating interest in the sciences and supporting research, improving science education and disseminating scientific knowledge.
The OSC is a sponsor of Science Day and this award aims to stimulate interest in computer modeling and other high-performance computing areas. Since 1987, OSC has been advancing the use of high performance computing and communications resources. As a shared state resource, OSC positions Ohio universities and industries at the forefront of scientific research, development, and engineering.
