OSC researcher wins grant to build digital bridge with Brazil

Marcio Faerman, a scientific research manager at the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC), recently received a $10,000 grant from a joint partnership between The Ohio State University and the Sao Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP).

Faerman’s research, one of 24 projects awarded under this new program, focuses on the beginning stages of building a digital bridge for research collaboration between OSU and the Sao Paulo campuses. Ohio State and FAPESP are each contributing $700,000 to begin the five-year program to support research and innovation.

The Great Lakes Consortium for Petascale Computation has awarded access to the Blue Waters supercomputer—which is capable of performing quadrillions of calculations every second and of working with quadrillions of bytes of data—to 10 diverse science and engineering projects.

The computing and data capabilities of Blue Waters will assist researchers in addressing questions of biology, nanoelectronics, ecological and economic impacts of climate change, and more.

Ohio Supercomputer Center Calls for Proposals for Statewide Computational Science Courses

Columbus, Ohio -- August 3, 1999 -- The Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) is looking for Ohio faculty interested in using distance learning technologies to bring computational science courses to campuses across the state.

OSC, a statewide resource for high performance technology, recently received funding from the Ohio Board of Regents to assist the state in developing computational science expertise at its public universities. OSC will fund computational science courses from various institutions that can be taught on multiple campuses.
