The GridChem partners announced today the wrap-up of a successful autumn 2005. A key component of the project, education and outreach, aptly met the challenge of reaching new users and communities.

The GridChem partners announced today their upcoming Access Grid (AG) event, GridChem: An Application Oriented Computational Grid, to be held on October 10, 2005, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. EST, at the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC).

"These new hires will provide systems and user support for the equipment located in Springfield," said Kevin Wohlever, OSC-S Director. "We are excited to bring these quality people on board and look forward to the contributions that they will make to our operations."

As systems developer/engineer, David Bertram leads support of the Apple Cluster that will serve a large number of OSC users and provide a testing environment on this unique architecture. His future goals at OSC are to make project users' lives easier and to maintain staff machines.

The City of Dublin has joined forces with Ohio's Third Frontier Network (TFN) in establishing the Central Ohio Research Network--or CORN--linking education and commerce for research and economic development.

The Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) will hold a Network Performance Workshop Sept 29 and 30 at its headquarters on the Ohio State University West Campus. The workshop is sponsored by OARnet, OSC's networking division, and Internet2, the national high-performance network for higher education.

The Internet2 Fall 2005 Member Meeting is open to registration. The Member Meeting is sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic GigaPop in Philadelphia for Internet2 (MAGPI), and will take place at the Wyndham Philadelphia Hotel at Franklin Plaza.

The world' first Gigaconference videoconferencing event opened at noon EST today to showcase the use of high-end, high-performance videoconferencing equipment. The Internet2 Commons and Codian Corp are sponsoring the event.

More than 20 participating sites from around the world are giving presentations on a variety of topics including animated videos, musical performances, classroom teaching experiences, remote medical collaborations, and much more.

Engineers from the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) completed an early upgrade to the primary core ring on the Third Frontier Network (TFN) last week in order to handle increasing demand for networking services. Known as Ring-0, it is the most important ring on the nation's most advanced statewide fiber optic network for education and research. TFN connects Ohio's universities, colleges, K-12 schools, research centers, federal labs, hospitals and a variety of public and private agencies to promote education, research and economic development.

The Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) will be graduating a group of 15 high-school scientists on Friday July 22, 2005 as part of its 17 th annual Summer Institute, "SI 2005: Supercomputing to Infinity and Beyond."

Since 1989 OSC has been preparing future technology leaders by offering a two-week intensive program that gives academically-gifted Ohio high school freshmen and sophomores a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the dynamic fields of high performance computing (HPC) and networking using some of the world's best supercomputers.
