OSC (Ohio Supercomputer Center) has announced that 16 high school finalists will embark on its Summer Institute (SI) 2002: Experience the Future of Computing.
The OSC SI Program has been offered to Ohio's brightest high school freshmen and sophomores for 14 years. SI gives students the opportunity to work with OSC's most advanced supercomputers.
During SI, 2002 students will work in teams with scientists, learning to apply scientific methods to problem-based projects using OSC resources. The program will give students an opportunity to exercise problem solving, use interpersonal communication skills, and be creative while learning about high performance computing and networking.
The admission process for SI is very selective. In their applications, students must complete a computing programming assignment, a written essay, and mathematical problems. Students must also provide teacher recommendations.
